You are a victim of the rules you live by.

I've been thinking about this. Here's what I want to do:

1. Be true to myself. Share myself. I so greatly enjoy when others share themselves. Don't worry about what others think.
2. Stop waiting around for the right time, more money, on and on, to do the things that are important to me.
3. Go on more adventures.
4. Take risks. Learning and character are gained through missteps.
5. View change with curiosity. You never know what's around the corner.
6. Be present. Let go of 'what might have been' and the 'what ifs' of the future.

Love this new tune. Makes me want to go to a hippie party in the woods and dance. Ever notice how happy everyone is when they're dancing?

Improv Everywhere

Gosh, wouldn't it be fun to have Improv Everywhere in our city?

Into the Wild

We watched Into the Wild recently.

"Based on a true story and the bestselling book by Jon Krakauer. After graduating from Emory University in 1992, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless (Hirsch) abandons his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life." {via}

It was a good movie. Not being familiar with the true story, we decided to read more. Outside features an interesting article- Death of an Innocent and there is a documentary- The Call of the Wild.

Coming to a Country Near You

Husband created a set of thought-provoking posters. {You can't really see it in this image, but the small text in the blue box reads 'COMING TO A COUNTRY NEAR YOU'.} I hung the octopus one up today.

Kuroshio Sea

This is amazing. Watch this full screen. It made me smile and relax. I hope you like it, too.

the state of things

It's been awhile. This is my foot. This is the state of things around here. S L O W going. I had foot surgery on Monday to correct 3 toes and now I wear this pretty boot and hobble for 2 weeks. I go back for my first round of x-rays tomorrow. No work for me at present. Just hazy, try-to-get-comfortable days. Saul is taking full advantage of having a napping buddy around. I'll be back soon with more exciting news...

Today

I am listening to Antony and the Johnsons, Alexi Murdoch, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, Gustavo Santaolalla, and Regina Spektor, to name a few.
I am making homemade applesauce and handmade cards.
I am thankful for yoga. It is teaching me to be present and to see that which I cannot change with new eyes.
I am dreaming of far away places. A vacation would be swell. Soon...
I am wearing my pinstripe vest.
I am enjoying triple cream brie with Vinta crackers, vino(of course) and mint dark chocolate.
I am able to do a headstand!
I am happy.

How about you?

Now reading

I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The movie is coming out soon. I get so entwined while reading this. McCarthy paints the post-apocalyptic setting of an ashy, baren land void of life clear as a bell for you. It makes me shiver.

One of my favorite Fleet Foxes songs. Love the stars and moon going around.

The Next Steps

Craig had his post radiation scans on his knee and his lungs. The results were wonderful-everything looks great. His second surgery is scheduled for October 5th. He will have more tissue on his knee removed, have a skin graft and come home from the hospital the following day. We are thankful to be moving towards the end of intensive treatment and, hopefully, into the remission chapter.

Blooma Uganda

THE CHALLENGE: MAKING BIRTH BETTER

Blooma, Sarah Longacre, and You serving Uganda

In Uganda, Africa, complications related to childbirth kill 150 women every week.
Every week! That's nearly 8,000 women a year. That's stunning, and heart-wrenching,
and it's not OK. But we—you, me, Blooma—can help change that right now, this year.

Blooma celebrates and honors my lifelong love of bellies, babies, and mamas. (Beautiful mamas, you know you inspire me!) Being surrounded by the strong, sweet women who
bring life into the world, watching their gorgeous bellies grow, and then seeing their
families take shape—that is life-affirming.

Women who come to Blooma talk about the strong, healing link between birth and yoga. We have a way to share that with the women and families of Uganda, thanks to the Off the Mat, Into the World® program (OTM) that organizes and inspires hundreds of yoga communities to help make the world a better place.

It is my intention that by December 15, 2009, our amazing Blooma community will raise $20,000 to support the work of Shanti Uganda. This small-yet-mighty organization is leading the charge to build a birth center, to offer prenatal education programs, and to provide basic, sanitary medical supplies that will save the lives of new mamas and their precious babies.

Help share the wonder that birth can bring. Help a woman in Africa live to raise her child. Help ease the sadness and suffering that too many Ugandan families endure. We'll do it in true Blooma style, by celebrating birth and loving life and building community. Consider this your invitation to joyous selfless service!

In February 2010, I will travel to Uganda along with other Seva Challenge participants. We'll work alongside local villagers to build the birthing center, along with a school and a sustainable farm. And I will carry in my heart the spirit of generosity and support that you bring to Blooma. Let's share the beauty that birth can be!

A to Z Produce Pizza Farm

We drove down to Stockholm, WI, to eat pizza at a beautiful farm in the country. Every Tuesday evening, the farm fires up their wood-burning pizza ovens and bakes incredibly fresh pizzas. They even make their own flour and grow their own herbs and vegetables. Head there with a picnic blanket and/or chairs and a table, your beverages of choice and any other accompaniments you'd like(even candles!). Everybody settles in, relaxes and enjoys the tranquility of the farm during their delicious dinner.
