today

it is H O T
linen + lipstick is the attire
moonlight swim last night
ice cream date tonight

what the hell
I'm wearing my sunglasses inside
my cat is chasing invisible bugs
my cell phone customer service rep just told me MI is next to MN
next to Minneapolis
did WI disappear overnight?
and where was I?

this gal is making me laugh
with her funny illustrations
hilarious commentary
hyperbole and a half

Bagby Hot Springs

thought I'd share some photos of Bagby Hot Springs
one of my favorite outings during our Portland trip
we drove about 2 hours SE
a quiet middle-of-the-week trip
a beautiful drive through mountains
along the most beautiful teal river
after a mile and a half hike through National Forest
we reached the hot springs
water is piped to private hollowed out cedar log tubs
half a roof and half open to the trees, sun and rain
we sat and sat and sat in the hot tub of mineral water
a room full of steam
we left feeling completely refreshed
and wandered back through the forest
for a dreamy drive back
and a night on the town

built up to a standard

bicycle rush hour

I love this. Love it. Love it. Love it.
So much so that I had to post it when I saw it on A CUP OF JO.

monoprints

Yesterday I went to Free Ink Day at Highpoint Center For Printmaking. It was my first time making monoprints and they're a bit sloppy, but it was fun and I learned so much. I was so so clueless when I first arrived.

What a fabulous weekend it was...there is nothing better than sunshine, bikes, friends, picnics, creating, good food, drinks, movies...

I hope your weekend was splendid, too.

This is a card-in-a-box collage I made recently for a friend with print media and driftwood pebbles.

PS22 Chorus

The PS22 Chorus is a public elementary school chorus in Staten Island. These kids are amazing; they have so much fun.

We picked up the Nikki McClure print in photo 1 on our trip. I love it with the confetti garland I made.

makeshift

MakeShift is an art and research project that examines the relationships between 'making', 'clothing' and 'living'. The basic premise for the project is that for a period of one year starting on September 1st, 2009, I will only wear things that I have made myself. Initially this may seem like a reasonable task, but it will include all of my clothes, socks, shoes, underwear, coats, jackets, hats, bathing suits, accessories and anything else I might need to protect my body from the elements while trying to lead a fulfilling life.

Beyond being a nail-hammering, speed-sewing, room-pacing, hair-raising, life-enriching personal challenge, I hope to gain some understanding of the limitations of clothing and how they affect the development of ideology. Ultimately, I would like to examine the role of clothing as a form of cultural production.

furoshiki

Furoshiki is a traditional Japenese wrapping cloth used for bundling and transporting. How pretty do gifts look wrapped up like this? And it's reusable. Absolutely no waste.

This is a great guide for different wrapping methods.

we're back

What a fabulous time in Portland we had! We had so much fun together exploring the city, the coast and the mountains. After a turbulent flight, we celebrated our return with homemade fettuccine alfredo and snuggled up in bed to watch Everything is Illuminated. More photos to come.
