house on the rock

Clingstone, also known as the house on the rock, is situated in Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay. Can you imagine the view?

chewy granola bars

I found a fabulous recipe for chewy granola bars via Tastespotting. They are peanut-buttery, moist and full o' fiber. Find the recipe here.

*I made a few substitutions and additions to the recipe based on what I had on hand. I used an unsweetened cereal, ground flax instead of wheat germ(I didn't toast it with the cereal and oats like the recipe calls for in order to preserve the omega fatty acids and also replaced some of the cereal with it to increase the amount added to 1/2 cup) and pumpkin seeds instead of peanuts. Use what you have on hand and they'll still turn out fabulous.

down by the river

I love biking to the river, descending the steps and sitting on the shore. The water is so calming.

she was a phantom of delight

she was a phantom of delight
when first she gleam'd upon my sight
a lovely apparition, sent
to be a moment's ornament
her eyes as stars of twighlight fair
like twilight's, too, her dusky hair
but all things else about her drawn
from may-tine and the cheerful dawn
a dancing shape leading away
to haunt, to startle, and waylay

weekend retreat in the chichibu mountains

obsessing over this weekend retreat in japan

often times i have the desire to be in the countryside
get away from the hustle of the city
growing up in the country has stayed with me
it probably always will
a blend of both seems ideal
i love the city and the country
this idea is building a dream

Is Sugar Toxic?

Gary Taubes wrote an extremely interesting article for The New York Times about how our bodies process and react to sugar and how sugar consumption ultimately affects our long-term health. Read it here.
