cloudy eyed

I'm soooo tired and I just can't shake it.

I want to curl up with this silk scarf from plainMADE and nothing else on this hot day until I wake up full of zest. Looking forward to coffee and a walk to the park in the morning time.

If I...

...got married again today, Fistful of Love would be the song for our first dance

p.s. our first dance song was Desire which we loved
p.p.s. my sister, Jenny, used to always play the 'what if' game and was always concocting different crazy scenarios and different outcomes. we'll have to give it another go-she's visiting tonight!

4 years

4 of the best years of my life with you + so many more to come xoxo

{and happy 63rd to Grandma and Grandpa Johnson on the same day!}

Seattle

I made a quick, quick trip to Seattle this week to nanny. I did lots and lots of walking and exploring with the sweet one and her stroller and met up with a friend. We stayed by Lake Union and enjoyed the nearby sights.

A bit of what we saw and where we went:

Portage Bay Cafe, Claudio Corallo Chocolates(!), Agua Verde Cafe, Center For Wooden Boats,
Olympic Sculpture Park and Vivarium, listening to street musicians while dining in Post Alley, a local cold brew from a McMenamins' Pub, a bit of shopping, Pike Place Market, Daily Dozen Doughnuts, watching the water planes land from the balcony, Top Pot Doughnuts...

Curried Egg Salad

curried egg salad sandwiches with fresh cilantro is a new fave in the house
we're always up for new sandwich ideas
they're a perfect summer staple that doesn't heat up the house
our CSA is shaping up quite nicely

Rush Hour On The Croix

Here are a few photos from our afternoon canoe trip on Friday down the St. Croix River. We stopped for coffee and picnicked and swam and wandered and paddled and soaked in the sun.

We love the summer!

The Pizza Farm

After a busy day yesterday and much anticipation, we headed south to the tiny town of Stockholm, WI, to eat wood-fired homemade pizza at A to Z Produce Farm.

It was lovely. The drive along the river was beautiful. The weather was perfect. The animals were charming. The pizza was the best one we've had thus far. It was utterly delicious. The ingredients are grown right on the farm.

We enjoyed a spectacular sunset as we departed for home and visited an old cemetery. Though it may seem strange or rather morbid, I enjoy exploring old cemeteries. I like the aged carved stones and reading the names. I like imagining the lives they lived in the surrounding countryside. What a wonderful night.

the city looks like a ghost town right about now
tonight we'll head out on our bikes
for fireworks and the 10 second film festival at the Soap Factory

new mural in town

a new mural went up on the side of the old video store nearby
it now seems to be a pop-up fireworks shop
the sandwich board outside reads 'who needs all 10 fingers?'

happy July!
